The vision for Warm-A-Heart originated in the fall of 1987 as a blanket project for homeless and needy persons in the general areas of Columbus/Fort Benning, Georgia and Phenix City, Alabama. This project was specifically designed to bring both physical and spiritual warmth to the body and to the heart of those who benefited from its support. It is by the grace of God that the vision for this mission and its works has survived to accomplish that and much more.
When God inspired Barbara Elmore to begin this project, she immediately sought the prayerful support and approval of her Pastors, along with the support of her local church family. After much prayer and supplication the Give-A-Blanket project was born.
The idea for the project continued and remained under the auspice of the Young People's Evangelism, and auxiliary within the church, until 1998 when the project was set apart as a separate entity operating within the church and was officially known as Warm-A-Heart Outreach. This initial inspiration to provide blankets to the homeless continued to be an annual event sponsored by Warm-A-Heart and many other projects soon followed. Warm-A-Heart continued to function as a working auxiliary within the church, serving the needs of the community until November 2010, when once again, the call to enlarge the vision was ordained for this outreach program. After much prayer and careful consideration, a new location was secured, and Warm-A-Heart Outreach officially became the Warm-A-Heart Outreach and Referral Center.
Today, Warm-A-Heart Outreach and Referral Center is no longer an auxiliary based within a local church. The vision for Warm-A-Heart has broadened to become a mission that has been called out from the church. While the vision and the location have changed, the objective and primary purpose of this outreach ministry of serving the local community has remained constant.
The ultimate goal of Warm-A-Heart Outreach and Referral Center is to fulfill the Great Commission as set forth by Jesus Christ from the Holy Bible. We are doing this by way of heart-warming missions, charitable deeds, showing love for the homeless, needy, broken, discouraged, poor, and disadvantaged. Therefore, we continue our bid for your unlimited prayers, unselfish love, and untiring support. Even as Christ stated, "I must work the works of Him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work." (St. John 9:4) We too must follow in His footsteps and do all that we can.
